PROVEN TO SAVE FUEL!
It's True! If you tow an RV or trailer, haul load, or transport several people in a multi-passenger van, Roadmaster Active Suspension will reduce your fuel consumption. 5%, 10%, up to 20% SAVINGS AT THE PUMPS!
Tests prove it and so have our customers. Roadmaster Active Suspension is so effective as a load absorbing product it actually helps correct the negative effects load has on fuel economy. The heavier the load, the greater the savings... 5%, 10%, up to 20%. Test results vary greatly due to the amount and and position of load, road and driving driving conditions, vehicle type and 101 other factors, but the bottom line is: Roadmaster Active Suspension improves fuel mileage of rear leaf spring vehicles when operating with a load. Here's the how and why: When a vehicle with rear leaf spring suspension is loaded the arch of the springs are reduced. Additional weight will ultimately cause the rear of the vehicle to sag. When this vehicle is in motion the now compressed rear suspension can no longer fully absorb and dissipate the load. Furthermore, the undulating road surface will compound the problem, reducing even more the leaf springs ability to support and absorb. Unable to dissipate (in part or whole) via the leaf springs, the force of the load will transfer to axle, wheels and ultimately a large percentage of the rear tires. This causes the side walls of the tires to continually flex and bulge in the area where the tires make contact with the road. This tire bulging at road surface creates a continuously changing improper "footprint" (Illustration A), similar to a deflated tire, and that increases roll resistance. Increasing roll resistance makes the engine work harder and hence the vehicle burns more fuel. When Roadmaster Active Suspension is installed the rear leaf springs are supported by two variable rated coil springs, thereby converting a passive system to an active suspension system. These extremely powerful coils are the key to our success as they not only assist the leaf springs in supporting load and stabilizing the vehicle but also when strain from load is applied, a stabilizing action (unique to Roadmaster Active Suspension) comes into effect immediately, absorbing the force of the load. On undulating road surfaces, Roadmaster Active Suspension controls the rate of deflection of the leaf springs again absorbing and dissipating the energy. The consequence of this continuously 'absorbing and dissipating load force' action is a controlled discharge of energy through the leaf springs, axle, wheels and tires creating an improved balance between the tires and road surface contact. The result is a more proper and consistent tire to road footprint (Illustration B) and vastly reduced roll resistance...the key to considerable fuel savings.
Axle Wrap Bad. Roadmaster Good.
Axle wrap occurs when the rotational for of the tires causes the axle housing to twist or rotate. This rotation forces the springs to bend into an S-shape. When the axle housing rotates far enough, forces cause the tires to loose traction, and jump, or "hop". Once traction is lost, the springs snap back into their original positions.
This happens over and over until the truck gains better traction or the driver reduces torque input by letting off the throttle.
Roadmaster Active Suspension effectively reduces axle wrap and wheel hop by "absorbing" the added force of increased torque while holding the leaf springs in their original bowed shape. The S-shape twisting, and subsequent hop, is thereby greatly reduced. Traction is increased because tires transfer torque to the ground efficiently.
The improvement to driving performance will be most noticeable when accelerating on hill climbs or at times of rapid deceleration, such as hard braking.
By reducing axle wrap, RAS also minimizes wear and tear on several truck components including internal axle assemblies, tires, shocks, shackles, U-joints and leaf springs... ultimately saving $$$s.
THE PATENTED ROADMASTER ACTIVE SUSPENSION IS BY DESIGN THE ONLY LOAD ASSIST PRODUCT ON THE MARKET THAT WORKS ON A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT 'HORIZONTAL PRINCIPAL' TO SUPPORT THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS AND AS SUCH THE ONLY PRODUCT THAT WILL ACHIEVE THESE FUEL SAVINGS.
NOTE: REDUCING ROLL RESISTANCE AND HARMFUL FLEXING AND BULGING OF TIRES RESULTS IN EXTENDED TIRE LIFE
The Principles of How Roadmaster Active Suspension Operates
Our patented Active Suspension system for rear leaf springs improves vehicle control, safety and stability without changing the ride quality. The two variable rated coil springs fit onto the rear leaf springs of pickup trucks, vans and SUV's.
Once installed, loaded tension from the RAS variable rated coil springs instantly generate energy to the rear leaf springs by holding the leaf springs in their original designed bowed position. Like powerful muscles, when strain from the load (payload, tow load or vehicle weight shifts, etc) is applied to the leaf springs the RAS stabilizers come into action immediately, absorbing the force of the load.
When cornering, RAS reduces body roll and improves stability by supporting the spring which is taking the increased load. This is especially true for SUV's and other vehicles with a high center-of-gravity. The greater the strain, the more counter assistance force from the RAS unit enabling vehicles to carry maximum loads without bottoming through.
